May 21, 1999: Susan Lucci, star of ABC soap “All My Children,” finally won a Daytime Emmy Award. Lucci, who portrayed Erica Kane since the show’s debut in 1970, was first nominated in 1978. She subsequently went on to be nominated for the award nineteen years in a row before she finally won. Her character weathered a tide of drama though the years, including 11 husbands, as well as several typical soap opera scenarios like kidnapping, car accidents and drug addiction. After 41 years, ABC canceled the soap in September 2011. However, the network sold the licensing rights to production company Prospect Park, which relaunched the show earlier this year online. According to multiple reports, Lucci is in talks with the company to make her return playing Kane in the Web series. Lucci will also play a main character in the upcoming show “Devious Maids,” which will debut on Lifetime in June.
