June 17, 1994: Former professional football player and actor O.J. Simpson surrendered to police outside of his home. He was charged with the June 12 murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Simpson, upon hearing that he would be arraigned on the charges of murder, fled from Los Angeles and from police. News helicopters covered the chase live as Simpson and his friend Al Cowlings, who was driving a white Ford Bronco, led police through Los Angeles. After almost nine hours, Cowlings returned to Simpson’s home where Simpson finally surrendered. The following criminal trial was a media sensation that ended with a non-guilty verdict for Simpson on Oct. 3, 1995. In 2007, however, Simpson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies that included armed robbery and kidnapping. He was found guilty in 2008 and is serving his 33-year sentence, with a minimum of nine years without parole, at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nev. criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, robbery, and using a deadly weapon
