Al Jazeera to take over Current
Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera has acquired Current TV and will launch a new U.S.-based cable news channel later this year. This acquisition means the end of Current. The new network will be based in New York City and open new bureaus around the country that will increase Al Jazeera’s staff to 300 employees. Al Jazeera currently has bureaus in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago.
