Doug Sovern – KCBS-AM
Doug Sovern is a reporter and weekend anchor for KCBS, covering politics. He also works on special features and investigative reports. Sovern lives in Oakland Hills, Calif., and is the bass player for the Eyewitness Blues Band, made up of broadcasters from KCBS and CBS-5 TV. He has reported for KCBS from China and Mexico, and has covered the Tour de France. Sovern began his career as a copy person at the New York Times, and then moved to California to play in a rock band. Eventually, he returned to journalism and worked for Associated Press Radio and San Francisco station K-101. He worked for a brief time at KGO-AM before joining KCBS in 1990. Sovern has won more than 125 broadcast journalism awards, including national honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, the RTNDA/Edward R. Murrow Awards and the National Headliner Awards. He was the first three-time winner of the AP’s Reporter of the Year Award for California/Nevada, honored in 1999, 2003 and 2004.
Sovern has a degree in history from Brown University.
